How did we get here?

Last updated Sep 30th 2018

Right now the nation finds itself waiting a week before the Senate will vote on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court. In the meantime, an FBI investigation has started into several allegations against Judge Kavanaugh from his High School and College Days.

What started as a contentious hearing filled with very little reaching across the aisle descended into a sham hearing where each side was blaming and dodging in support or against Judge Kavanaugh.

This nomination is considered an important political battle for both sides (Democratic and Republican) as we get closer to the Mid-Term elections in November.

The Democrats are fighting against Kavanaugh’s nomination because of his stance on a woman’s right to choose, regarding abortion, and his stance on the power of the executive. Democrats view Kavanaugh’s nomination as a clear sign that President Trump is preparing to talking to Robert Mueller in the Russian Probe.

The Republicans are fighting to get Judge Brett Kavanaugh pushed through the nomination process before the November election so they can have a 5-4 advantage on the Supreme Court. Republicans often fight against Roe v. Wade, the ruling that protects abortion rights, and see Judge Kavanaugh as a conservative judge that will help overturn that ruling.

So That’s where we are, but how did we get to this point?

Well, (50-48) Kavanaugh was confirmed into the Supreme Court this week after a contiguous nomination process. There isn’t evidence to prove that he was responsible for the Sexual Assault against Prof. Ford and some say that the FBI did not speak with enough witnesses to really call their investigation “Thorough.”

Though there is not proof that Kavanaugh assaulted Ford, there seems to be evidence that he lied under oath and questions about his temperament and partisan behaviour during his testimony. Though the votes have been cast, and the investigation marked as complete it is hard to imagine that the media will stop investigating these allegations and Brett Kavanaugh in general. Moreover, the Midterms are a month away and the nation will have a chance to cast their votes, in part based on this confirmation hearing.
